Sustainability
Sustainability is one of our core values. We seek to create Lokoya wines with integrity at every step, from regenerative farming to low-intervention cellar techniques. This thoughtful approach not only produces the most exceptional quality— it also minimizes our environmental impact.
With a profound respect for the Earth as the source of our wines, 100% of our Napa Valley estate vineyards across Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, and Spring Mountain are organically certified under the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) program. Utilizing organic methods across our esteemed vineyards allows us to increase biodiversity and improve soil health. We do not apply any synthetic chemicals or sprays that are not approved to the standards of CCOF. In addition, our team employs regenerative farming practices such as animal grazing, biochar, composting, cover crops, and minimum tillage to nurture healthier vines and superior grapes.
In 2023, we also introduced our new sustainable packaging– a direct response to the growing reality of climate change. We are motivated to lower our carbon footprint as we prioritize stewardship of the land, our generous home.
• Our new boxes are composed of 90% recycled materials, a significant upgrade from wood boxes that contain no recycled content.
• Switching from virgin wood to a fiber box design reduces the packaging emission footprint per box by 18-23%.
• Our new design is 4.6 pounds lighter. These lighter-weight boxes decrease shipping emissions by 8.5 metric tons of CO₂ per vintage.
• Due to the substantially lower total shipping weight, we will achieve a 23% reduction in product transport-related emissions for Lokoya.
We trust that the sleek look and easier handling of our new sustainable packaging design will make you feel good knowing your wines are well-protected while leaving a lighter footprint.
